A Sustainable Future

No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent life. We deserve to feel strength and stability day after day. We deserve to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures.

At Habitat for Humanity, this is what unites us. Through shelter, we empower. Our shared vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Because you, me, we — we’re all humans. And every single one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future.

Youth Build

Habitat’s Youth Build is Saskatoon’s first ever project entirely built by teams of youth - people ages 16 to 30. From the framing to dry walling, to flooring and everything in between, these youth are learning useful skills that they will be able to take with them for the rest of their lives.  The Habitat Saskatoon’s Youth Build 2019 goals are to raise approximately $250,000 for costs to build a duplex, giving the families plenty of space to grow. A portion of the home has already been constructed by the Langham High School Shop program. In a few short weeks, the homes will be brought to Saskatoon. Over the course of the Youth Build 2019 we are anticipating approximately 350 youth volunteers, including dedicated teams from trades programs through local high schools. Saskatoon is in an affordable housing crisis, we have some of the highest rent to income levels in the country, people need some relief, and the Habitat Youth Build is the solution.

The Build's History

Across the country other Habitat for Humanity Affiliates have hosted Youth Build’s, with resounding success. Habitat Saskatoon wants to take that success even further by getting out the largest group of youth to build, the country has ever seen. Saskatoon has a community who are uniquely focused on volunteering, we know that our incredible city will be able to meet the challenge of the Youth Build.

The Habitat Saskatoon Model

Habitat for Humanity empowers families to build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership. Together with families, volunteers and community partners we build affordable homes.

Our unique model utilizes your financial and in-kind donation to build houses with volunteer labour. These houses are then sold to low-income families with an affordable mortgage that is indexed to their income. This mortgage is indexed to their income so that the payments are never more than 30% of their gross income. When these families make mortgage payments these payments go back into building homes.

Why Home Ownership?

Affordable home ownership empowers families to improve their lives. Habitat homeowners have better health outcomes, their children achieve higher levels of educations and develop independence. When a family has a safe, stable and affordable place to call home they are able to create a better life for themselves and their children.

The Avenue W South Project

Located in the community of Meadow Green in Saskatoon, the Avenue W South project is an in-fill duplex which will house 2 very deserving families.  Each unit has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathroom and all told will have about 1800 square feet of space.  This will also allow the families to have their very own green space.  The basements will be constructed using ICF, which will also provide the family with incredible savings on their energy bills.  All of our builds are supervised by an amazing team of professional carpenters, ensuring the home is built to the highest possible standard.
