Construction Volunteers

REMEMBER HABITAT SASKATOON BUILDS  ALL YEAR

Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon does not charge a fee to construction volunteers. However, you can make a significant contribution to the Habitat mission as an individual donor. Your financial support will help Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon provide simple, decent homes for families in need.

General Construction - Even if you have never held a hammer, now is the time to learn. Be part of the satisfaction of seeing a home grow before your eyes and know that you were a part of its completion.

Construction Specialties - Habitat Saskatoon is always looking for persons with trade skills. Consider becoming a crew leader or trainer  help us by showing other volunteers how to do jobs like wiring, plumbing , drywall finishing, finish trims.

Auxiliary Services - Registration, phoning, food services, courier, first aid, training, crew leaders; all necessary to a successful build.

Adopt-a-Day Program

Do you have a group that would like to join together to participate on a build? Think about your family and friends, your department from work or associates from a professional association or non-profit group. Adopt-a-Day allows your group (no prior construction experience required, minimum 16 years of age) to spend a day together building a home for a family in need. It is an incredible team-building experience that is sure to make your team members feel a sense of pride for your build accomplishments and for helping in your community. For more information and to book a day please contact kathleen@habitatsaskatoon.ca. For groups, please contact us 2 - 3 weeks in advance.

Please bring your own lunch, snacks and a water bottle. Fresh water is available onsite. Tools are provided, if you bring your own be sure they are marked. Dress appropriately, take into consideration the time of year and stage of the build. Bring steel toed footwear if you have your own. If not, there is a limited supply onsite. Open toed footwear is not allowed on the site.

Safety: A safety briefing at the start of the day will be held to discuss tools, safety equipment and precautions. Safety equipment available onsite includes: hardhats, protective eyewear, gloves and a limited supply of steel toed boots. First aid kits are available onsite and there is always someone onsite who has had up-to-date first aid training.

Tools: When working with tools that are new to you ask your Crew Leader for instructions before using. If you are uncomfortable for any reason don't be afraid to express this to your leader. When finished with tools place them in a sturdy and out of the way spot where they will not fall or be tripped over.
