Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals
Thank you for considering getting involved with Habitat Saskatoon as an individual volunteer. It is easy to get started by taking the following steps.
Step 1 Review the volunteer opportunities described below.
Habitat Saskatoon ReStore Volunteer in a fun retail environment where all of the proceeds support Habitat Saskatoon’s mission of building affordable homes in partnership with low-income working families.
- ReStore Delivery and Driver’s Assistant Volunteers help to continually refresh the ReStore’s inventory by riding in a truck with staff to pick-up donated merchandise. (Heavier physical activity, lifting 50-75 pounds)
-
ReStore Warehouse and Yard Assistant Volunteers help ReStore customers load purchases into their vehicles, unload the delivery truck, and move heavier stock around store. (Heavier physical activity, lifting 50-75 pounds)
-
ReStore Team Member Volunteers price items, stock shelves and display merchandise, help customers find and select items, and maintain the ReStore’s appearance. (Light physical effort required)
-
ReStore Office Administration and Internet Ad Posting Volunteers play a vital role in the ReStore by actively helping the smooth functioning of the office in the ReStore. We often need help with data input, taking pictures of product and posting advertisements to Kijiji.ca, mailings, answering the phone and various other tasks.
Construction Come out and help in the construction of quality homes for Habitat Homeowners:
- General Construction Volunteers are the heart of our quality home building program. General construction volunteers work on our construction sites helping to build homes.
- Volunteer Skilled Crew Leaders are tasked by the site supervisor to lead small groups of volunteers on construction-related tasks. Crew leaders are assigned by the site supervisor at the start of a construction volunteer shift depending on volunteer history, construction experience, and comfort level in leading a small group of volunteers on construction-related tasks.
- Deconstruction Volunteers help to remove salvageable items from a home slated for demolition. Deconstruction projects occur infrequently and tend to occur on short notice.

Volunteer Opportunities for Groups
Thank you for considering getting involved with Habitat Saskatoon as an individual volunteer. It is easy to get started by taking the following steps.
Step 1 Review the two opportunities described below, and identify the one that is the best fit for your group.
1. Become a House Sponsor
Every house built by Habitat Saskatoon requires sponsorship support. House Sponsors provide the financial underwriting and volunteers for each house.
House Sponsor opportunities range from $750 for a Team Build Project to $75,000 (half duplex sponsorship) or $125,000 (full duplex sponsorship).
Find out how your group can become a Habitat Saskatoon House Sponsor.
2. Organize a Non-Sponsor Group
Non-sponsor groups are typically limited in the number of build days on Saturdays, especially during the Winter build season, in order to give our hard working Habitat Homeowners an opportunity to work towards fullfilling their 500 volunteer sweat equity hours.
The following information applies to both of these opportunities:
- Volunteers receive direction and support from Habitat Saskatoon construction staff and Voluteer Crew Chiefs
- Habitat Saskatoon provides all of the tools and matierals needed for a build, including Canadian Standards Association-approved steel-toe boots and hard hat
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age
- Volunteers must sign, or electronically accept, a Waiver & Release of Liability Form before working on a build site
- Volunteer groups are expected to either provide or help cover the cost of lunches
- Prior construction experience is not necessary to volunteer on a build site
To become a House Sponsor, please visit the Sponsorship Section of this website.
To organize a Non-Sponsor Group, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
